CROCHET PATTERN - Hannah Hood

Looking for headwear that won’t mess up your hair? This oversized hood sits loosely on your head while providing warmth, and protects your ears from chilly weather.

SIZES/FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
One size fits most teens/women
When flat: 15” front edge x 10” back seam x 10.5” deep

YARN
Scheepjes Stone Washed XL, bulky weight #5 yarn (70% cotton, 30% acrylic; 82 yds/75 m per 1.76 oz/50 g skein) - 2 skeins Corundum 848

HOOK & OTHER MATERIALS 
US Size J/10 (6.0mm) crochet hook, yarn needle

GAUGE
6 (Cl, ch-1) groups and 8 rows = 4”/10 cm in pattern stitch
Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain gauge.

SPECIAL STITCH
Cl (cluster) = yo, insert hook in indicated st, yo and pull up loop, yo and draw through 2 loops, yo, insert hook in same st, yo and pull up loop, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook.



NOTE
Ch-1 at beginning of a row does not count as a st.

Instructions:

Ch 28 loosely.
Row 1 (RS):  Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 25, 3 hdc in last ch, hdc in next 26 on opposite side of starting chain—55 hdc.
Row 2:  Ch 1, turn, 2 hdc in 1st st, *ch 1, skip next st, Cl in next; repeat from * across to last 2 sts, ch 1, skip next st, 2 hdc in last—26 Cl, 27 ch-1 spaces, 4 hdc.
Row 3:  Ch 1, turn, 2 hdc in 1st st, ch 1, skip next st, *Cl in next ch-1 space, ch 1; repeat from * across to last 2 sts, skip next st, 2 hdc in last—27 Cl, 28 ch-1 spaces, 4 hdc.
Rows 4–20:  Repeat Row 3—stitch count increases by 1 Cl and 1 ch-1 space each row—44 Cl, 45 ch-1 spaces, 4 hdc.
Row 21:  Ch 1, turn, hdc in 1st st, ch 1, skip next st, *Cl in next ch-1 space, ch 1; repeat from * across to last 2 sts, skip next st, hdc in last—45 Cl, 46 ch-1 spaces, 2 hdc.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Top Braid
Cut six 13” lengths of yarn. Thread strands through top point of hood. Separate into 3 equal groups and braid. Knot braid end and trim fringe evenly.

Side Braids
Cut six 36” lengths of yarn. Thread strands through ch-1 space at front corner of hood. Separate into 3 equal groups and braid. Knot braid end and trim fringe evenly.  
Repeat for 2nd braid.
