CROCHET PATTERN - Cordial Pet Collar

We rescued our new fur baby, Sandy, a couple weeks ago, and I've just been itching to crochet some cute stuff for her.

Inspired by the paracord survival bracelets that my kids like to make, I designed this quick and cute dog collar for her!

This collar works well for dogs (or cats) under 30 pounds that walk gently on a leash, or that don't need a leash at all.  

MATERIALS:  G-6 (4.0 mm) crochet hook, small amount of Red Heart Cordial (or any super sturdy bulky weight yarn), 1/2" plastic buckle, 7/8" split ring or D ring, measuring tape, yarn needle, scissors

SIZE:  Collar measures 5/8" wide, and circumference is customized to your pet's neck.

STITCH GUIDE:  ch - chain, sc - single crochet

NOTES:

  1. Work Row 1 over the starting tail.
  2. Begin and end the collar with the right side of the buckle facing.
  3. Crochet snugly for a dense fabric with minimal stretch.


First, gather your materials.

Next, measure your pet's neck close to the fur, but not too snug.  The buckle will add about 1" of extra space, so it will fit comfortably.  Sandy's neck circumference is 13 1/4".

Instructions:

Row 1 (right side):  Insert hook into slot on buckle and sc, work one more sc in slot.
Row 2:  Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc -- 2 sc.
Rows 3-4:  Repeat Row 2.
Row 5:  Ch 1, turn, place split ring/D ring on hook, sc in each sc crocheting over the ring to secure it into place -- 2 sc.

Repeat Row 2 until crocheted portion of collar reaches your pet's neck circumference measurement.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Whip stitch end of collar to opposite end of buckle, using 2-3 stitches in each sc.
Weave in all ends.  If using Cordial yarn, you may need to melt the ends with a lighter (ADULTS only) to prevent fraying.
