CROCHET PATTERN - Hair Spirals

Hair spirals are a cute, classic hair accessory.  Many of you probably remember wearing these in your pigtails when you were a kid!  There are about as many ways to make these as there are people to make them.  I forgot all about them until my friend Monica from The Fine Lime suggested them a few weeks ago. Hair spirals are quick & easy to make & you really can't mess them up.

SUPPLIES:  G (4.0mm) crochet hook, any worsted weight yarn, scissors, yarn needle, stitch marker.

STITCH GUIDE:  CH - chain, HDC - half double crochet, ST(S) - stitch(es).

NOTE:  You can make these longer/shorter and fatter/skinnier... I will include some tips in parentheses as we go to help you customize your spirals.  Experiment with them to see what you like best.

OK, here we go.  This should take you about 15 minutes...

CH 26 (you can make this longer or shorter if you want, but if you change this number, write it down)

Work 2 HDC (or 3, if 2 doesn't make them curly enough for you) in 2nd CH from hook and in each ST across.  (first spiral made)

CH 40 & MARK LAST CHAIN.  (make this chain longer if you have thick hair)

CH 26 again  (this number should be the same as the first)

Work 2 (or 3) HDC in 2nd CH from hook and in next 24 STS.  (just work back to the stitch marker)

Fasten off & weave in ends.  Tie your hair spirals in a bow around a pretty ponytail, attach them to a ponytail holder, or even use them as a bookmark!  Lots of possibilities!

Final note:  You can use Single Crochet or Double Crochet stitches to get thinner or wider spirals.  It's your choice.

Shop of the Week - SARAH'S STITCHES

This week's featured vendor is Sarah's Stitches!  Sarah is an amazing seamstress (is that what we're calling them these days?) and sews the cutest aprons, bags, totes, organizers, and dresses!  Her Etsy shop is stocked with a colorful assortment of goodies!  You should definitely stop by and take a look.  She also gladly takes custom orders!

Many moons ago, I had the great luck of being the winner of one of Sarah's giveaways.  She designed this AWESOME patchwork tote and matching crochet hook organizer for me!  I still use it regularly.  The quality is excellent, and the colors are fabulous!

In her shop, she sells various types of gadget sleeves.  This one is for an iPad.  I'm probably going to have to snag one of these so I can keep my iPad stored in my diaper bag for trips to the doctor's office, long car rides, etc.  Really great idea!

Sarah also makes these really beautiful aprons.  I don't spend enough time in my kitchen to need an apron... but this one is SO cute. I suddenly have the urge to bake something...

Weekly Wrap Up

It's been a pretty productive week!  The weather is slowly starting to get warmer (and less rainy) and that has seriously improved my mood!  I'm 32 weeks along in my pregnancy (baby #3 for those of you that aren't regular stalkers) and I'm feeling pretty good.  Thankfully crocheting helps keep my hands busy & doesn't hurt my back. :)

I got this precious photo from Little Canary Photography.
These adorable twins are modeling my new Trinity Beanie, available @ www.ameliacalvin.com

I added some Hair Spirals to www.crazysockscrochet.com
EVERY little girl needs some of these!

I created these little monsters & added them to my AC shop... they're available in blue, pink, green, purple, and red.  They're super soft & crazy cute!!

And you may have seen photos of my new Watermelon Beanie floating around on both sites.  You can purchase the pattern (all sizes included) from my CSC shop... or you can purchase a custom watermelon beanie from either AC or CSC.

That's it.  Enjoy your weekend!!  :)

Shop of the Week - CAPRICE CREATIONS

This week, I have the pleasure of sharing another awesome artisan... Caprice Creations!  Janet (the owner) makes lots of colorful crocheted goodies, as well as some paper crafts, coasters, clocks, trivets, and other goodies for the home & body in her shop.
She also has a sale going on right now & a percentage of her proceeds this month will be going toward "Autism Speaks".  Visit her shop or Facebook page for more information.

These small hand sanitizer cozies are really clever!  She sells them in many colors & you can have it with a hook or a keychain attached.  Great idea.

If you don't know the joys of cotton crocheted dishcloths, you're really missing out.  They're perfect for kitchen & bath.  I really love these bright colors!!!

I LOVE this set of coasters.  They're funky & SO colorful.  If someone else doesn't buy these real soon, I'm probably going to snag them myself.  They're just my style!  :)

Shop of the Week - TWO KAZOOS

Two Kazoos is a shop you're definitely going to want to check out!  I'll admit that upon hearing that she makes everything out of felt, I wasn't instantly drawn to it... but her creations are FANTASTIC!  She makes appliqués, magnets, signs, banners, clippies, games, tooth fairy pillows, other embellishments, and she takes custom orders!  I personally order a LOT of custom felt appliqués for my hats from her, and I am never disappointed.  The colors and the quality are top-notch!  The owner, Stephanie, is very friendly and always professional.  I'm proud to know her (even if we are just FB friends) and I hope you will ALL take a couple of minutes to browse her shop & 'like' her fan page.

This is a pic of a bunch of custom appliqués that I ordered from Two Kazoos.  They are made with acrylic felt so they won't shrink or bleed.

And here's the custom name banner that she made for my new baby boy!  I LOVE it so much!!  Who knew felt could be so FUN!?  :)
